Engineering Colleges in India are increasing but the Quality is not increasing

Limited Facilities, Lack of the Lecturers, College building in rented areas, Labs with out the required equipment… The teaching doesn’t reach the standards that the Industries wants. But the Engineering colleges are ready to start the new Academic Year. In some States Counseling has been completed and some other state are ready for counseling. As usual many of the engineering collegeswhich doesn’t reach the AICTE Standards are also in the Counseling list and admitting the students for their Commercial point of viewthey are not supposed to think about the students future. The NASCOM’s Survey in Andhra pradesh had let out a fact that only 12% of the students have the skills and technical knowledge to get a job after completing their course.
• Many of the Engineering Colleges in India doesn’t have minimum facilities.
• Lecturers with out experience, Labs with out equipments
• Every year the Engineering colleges are growing in Number but not the Quality
Lots of Engineering colleges :
There are lots of Engineering colleges in India even though there is a deficiency of 56,000 Phd candidates and 82,000 M.Tech Graduates. So the Graduates who have completed B.Tech are joining as the Lecturers who doesn’t have any experience. Here is an example for such issue : In JNTU Hyderabad region only among the 300 engineering colleges not even 83 principals with theQualification are not recruited.
Half of the Engineering colleges doesn’t have minimum facilities.
The Engineering colleges are being approved by the AICTE are not even having the facilities like experienced Lecturers. In rural areaswe cann’t even have the basic facilities. Last year 35% of the seats in the Rural areas are left unfilled due to this reason. This year AICTE has increased some more seats for such colleges, As they have a team to inspect the colleges they have given approval for the colleges which have provided a bond stating that they have all the facilities.

90% of the Engineering Students are facing Lack of skills

Even as India is emerging as an engineering and manufacturing outsourcing hub, 90 per cent of the engineering resources in the country do not posses the right skill set to work in real time, Ansys, provider of engineering simulation software, said.

According to Gautam Dutta, country manager of Ansys, engineering courses abroad are project-oriented, while in India it is examination-oriented.

“All students are prepared to answer questions in examinations, rather than making them adept in asking the right questions and gain practical knowledge. It is a big challenge. Only 10 per cent of the engineering jobs are filled by engineering graduates from premier institutes, while others have to undergo intense training and get their skills honed to work in real time,” Dutta said.

In a bid to widen its reach in India, Ansys has signed two channel partnerships with ATeN Systems and Technology and Entuple Technologies. Presently, India is one of the biggest users of Ansys engineering simulation software products.

ATeN Systems and Technology will be ANSYS India’s PAN India educational product distributor.

Nawdeep Puranik, managing director of ATeN said, “India has become the world’s engineering and manufacturing outsourcing hub. Every year more than 2,500 engineering students graduate from engineering and polytechnic institutes.”

“Today the challenge is to produce global, industry-ready engineers. Computer-aided engineering, or engineering simulation, is rising-sun technology,” he added.

Another channel partner Entuple Technologies and ANSYS together will focus on automotive, aerospace and defence, and industrial equipment and rotating machinery industries to address their electronic design automation (EDA) needs.

Emerging Career Opportunities in IT in India – IT Industry Expectations – Tips for engineering students

Emerging Career Opportunities in (Information Technology) IT in India –  IT Industry Expectations – Tips for engineering students
Information Technology had been one of the key economy booster in India in the last 3 decades, IT was contributing 50% of the share in India’s GDP where as manufacturing, agriculture were contributing 20% and 15% respectively. In the financial year 2013-14 Indian IT/ITES industry was one of the largest employer with 2.2 million engineers directly and 8 millions indirectly by generating a revenue of 125 Billion US$. There is an estimation that Indian IT industry will be earning 250 billion US$ by 2020. Here the challenge is not about the employment but its all about the employability of our engineers.
India has 1.7 million engineering seats as of now (Till date) but only 20% of them are employable as per the NASSCOM reports. Remaining 80% of the engineers coming out of the Colleges every year are not getting jobs in IT. The “Make in India” campaign which was proposed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is giving thrust to Information Technology and manufacturing sector.
Industry Expectations for the engineering students :
• Consistency in their academic performance from year 1 to year 4 (minimum of 65%)
• They should not have backlogs in any year
• Working on mini projects from the 2nd year 2nd semester will help the students in understanding the application of the theoretical knowledge in real time practice
• Certification courses will be helpful
• Should be good at Aptitude skills – Quantitative, Logical and reasoning
• Ability learn new and emerging technologies
• To expose yourself in group one must participate in Group discussions, JAM sessions and Debates
• Participate in the coding contests like Microsoft hackon, Infosys Aspiration 2020 and others which will help you in understanding the competition and our caliber
